AmazonFACE presented at ACTO

On May 29, 2017 the AmazonFACE program was exposed to the ambassadors of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) in Brasília. Among the attendants of the meeting were ambassador Tarcísio Costa from Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the coordinator of biomes from Brazil’s Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications, the president of AmazonFACE’s Scientific Steering Committee and the ambassadors of Bolivia, Peru, Colombia, Suriname, Guyana, Venezuela and Ecuador in Brasília.

After a brief presentation of the program objectives, tasks and relevance, a fruitful discussion on the science-policy interface of the program took place. Ambassador from most of the countries explicitly highlighted the importance of the program and that they will endeavor effort in their respective diplomatic representations to involve research institutions from other Amazonian countries apart from Brazil. At the end ACTO’s executive director Cézar de Las Casas (from Peruvian embassy) indicated that a representative of ACTO shall attend the IDB AmazonFACE Symposium in Washington in early June.
